A dream pursued
can be felt for generations to come. Percy Dunville Henry's
dream began in Slaughters, Kentucky when the young bank clerk
decided on banking as his life-long career.
Searching for just the right location to start a bank, old friend
H. P. Linn, claim agent for the N.C. & St. Louis Railroad,
suggested the Oakland Community near Somerville, Tennessee as
a spot in need of banking services. Oakland was visited and
studied, the decision was made and Henry spearheaded the effort
in which $10,000 paid in capital was raised. The first stockholders
meeting was held on December 19, 1904, followed by application
to the State of Tennessee for a bank charter, and on March 14,
1905, The Oakland Deposit Bank, under the leadership of Percy
Dunville Henry as Cashier, opened its doors.
